Spent all day going to, and from, a VA appointment. For an 11:45 AM appointment I left home at 10:00 AM and had lunch just before going into the VA Medical Center. Then, of course, I had to wait for a long time before I saw the doctor. The actual appointment went well and I learned a couple of things about my ankle so I might be able to improve its working. I just have to remember to do it. This is an issue, I think my memory is not what it used to be, but I can’t be sure as I don’t really remember. (Intentional bad joke.)

I have to go shopping for socks tomorrow and for feet my size, size 15 American measurement, that is hard. Socks for my big feet are rare, even online. And I like to buy crew socks in large packs as that means I can just grab a pair without having to worry about the match. I hate shopping for socks for this exact reason.

I ordered a political shirt and it came. It was exactly what I wanted except for one thing. The shirt is heavy cotton so I probably won’t wear it until late Fall or Winter. I might wear it once or twice during the Summer if the heat isn’t too high. The message on the shirt, my own message, is: I AM THE LIBERTARIAN THAT YOUR DICTATOR WARNED YOU AGAINST. I might buy a couple more but instead of YOUR DICTATOR use THE DEMOCRATS and THE REPUBLICANS. And instead of WARNED YOU AGAINST I might use DON’T WANT YOU TO TALK TO. I could easily get half a dozen or more done up.

If you have been paying attention to christophercolesite.wordpress.com you will notice that I did not post a chapter today. I will try to get it posted tomorrow but with the hunting for socks, I might not. Next Thursday I should post even though I have another medical appointment as I can probably post after I get back, I will just stay up late as a result.

I deliberately skipped my morning medicines today because I had to have blood drawn and I had to fast for that. If I had given myself my medicines, I probably would have passed out before I could eat something. I almost did anyway. It takes an hour and a half, more-or-less, to get to the VA Medical Center and there is no knowing how long the wait will be at the outpatient lab before I would be called in for the vampires to do their thing. So, I got it done and headed for the canteen at the other end of the medical center for breakfast. Naturally, there was a line. And naturally, I had to wait for one of the items I ordered. However, I got my food and while my back was starting to sweat, I got enough in me fast enough to avoid hypoglycemia.

Once the blood draw was over and the gauze taped in place, I began to lower the sleeve of my shirt. This dislodged the gauze and now I have bloodstains along the sleeve of a white shirt. A brand-new shirt. I hope the stain washes out. Because the humidity is so low here in Tucson, it dried very quickly, which may cause problems getting it out.

Because of this, I haven’t gotten any writing done today and because of a doctor’s appointment and my TTRPG group tomorrow, nothing then either. The chapter I normally post on Thursdays I will try to get posted on Friday but that is payday so I may miss the entire week.

Still hot here in Tucson, but it is Summer and the Sonoran Desert. I have spent the day writing, HIGH TREASON, and little else.

I did get a shirt I ordered from Zazzle.com. I used a blank long-sleeved t-shirt and had them print on the front and back: I am the Libertarian your dictator warned you against. I plan to order some more shirts, but instead of “dictator” I will use Democrat or Republican. Should be a nice conversation starter.

HIGH TREASON is about halfway done in terms of word count but since I have not done an outline preparation, my target of 45,000 words may not be accurate. I may go longer but I do not want to end up shorter. I think 45,000 words is a good length to tell a story, there are good stories that are longer, but with some books that are longer, I get the feel of padding. I don’t argue against padding, sometimes you have to expand a section and that can feel like padding to someone else, so what I think of as padding might not be. A lot of style is subjective.

I often think of something I wanted to put into one of these posts about an hour or so after I publish the post and then forget it until I publish another post. I have been sitting here, trying to fool myself into remembering what it is more that  I want to post and I cannot.

Another warm day in Tucson. I spent very little time doing anything outdoors. I still have bees hanging around my backyard but I seem to have picked up a couple of lizards as well. I am not familiar with lizards, not like military aircraft, so don’t ask me what they are. I don’t know, other than lizard.

It still hasn’t done any real raining but I don’t expect any until on or after the 4th in spite of what the Weather service says is the start of the monsoon season. Lots of clouds though and I like that. Clouds presage rain.

I did get a lot of writing done on HIGH TREASON and the plot has taken a couple of twists in the rewrite. In the original that I threw away because I didn’t like where it was going, and I needed to kill off the Emperor Caroline, I had a different set of events that took place. I still am following the basic plot I had in mind but the events are somewhat different. Feel free to stop over on my other blog christophercolesite.wordpress.com and read the two books I have finished posting there and the third book, in the process of posting there. I welcome any comments on my writing as I want to improve.

A friend of mine gave me a copy of Heinlein’s JOB. He complained that the book eliminated any chance for sequels or spinoffs. My books in the Elder series will do the same but I am not going to say how right now. Some of the other books I want to finish, such as MAGIC IN THE MONASTERY do not eliminate the chance for sequels. HOUSE FOURTEEN is going to be a mass of sequels. It is a good thing I enjoy writing, I could do nothing but write for the rest of my life and not get all my stories done. And I couldn’t do that because I need to grocery shop, eat, sleep, do other shopping, and so forth. All by myself.

I just got back from a radio show. The host of the show, it is actually bought time on the station like an infomercial, had attended the Libertarian Party meeting last week and invited me. I hadn’t ever been on the radio before so I grabbed the chance and I hope people liked what I said.

It is hot still, the heat wave hasn’t broken yet. It looks like it might rain which will be welcome. A few years ago the National Weather Service changed the definition of when the annual monsoon starts and stops. It used to be when the humidity was at or above a certain level for three days in a row for the start and when the humidity went below that level for three days. Now, it is a specific date on the calendar for both the start and the stop. So, we are in the official monsoon season but no rain yet.

My new phone was acting up for a while but seems to be over that for now. For a couple of days it flickered most of the time it was on, now it seems over that. I hope it was just that I was out in the heat too much. Electronics is so heat sensitive.

Not a lot to say today. So, this is a short post. Maybe tomorrow will be a day I can justify a thousand words or a good picture.

Another hot day here in Tucson and I had to go grocery shopping. This being Saturday, the bus I would be using runs on a reduced schedule. From the time I got off the bus near the grocery store to when I had to be at the bus stop waiting for the bus was fifteen minutes or an hour and fifteen minutes. I couldn’t get my shopping done fast enough and I couldn’t stay in the grocery store for all the extra time needed, so I finished and went to a fast food place and had a hot fudge sundae. Lucky me, I had enough time to kill that the extraordinary wait for the sundae didn’t make me late for the bus. For some reason, I had to wait for almost twenty minutes for a hot fudge sundae, nothing else, just the one item.

I did watch a couple episodes of ARROW this morning and will watch a couple more later. The series is darker than what I remember the comic being, but I still like it. I always enjoyed the Green Arrow, Batman, and the Flash comics as a child. Both Green Arrow and Batman had exactly what they needed when they needed it, talk about planning ahead, and the Flash could do so much with his speed trick.

I bought off of a download RPG site a copy of the latest version of TRAVELLER. I have been playing TTRPG for 40 years now and I started with D&D and I have gotten to hate that system. I haven’t read the rulebook for TRAVELLER yet but I am hoping for something I can enjoy. I am also collecting the HARN setting and HARNMASTER system. With those two I should be able to have something that is not D&D for future play.

I still want to go out into my backyard and enjoy the scenery, the Catalina Mountains, but I still have bees and even through they have been identified as drones and thus without stingers, I hesitate. I am paying a slightly higher rent because I have a backyard and I am afraid to use it.

Laundry day and I got only some of my laundry done. Actually, basically just the socks. I wear white socks, all of a single pattern so I don’t have to worry about matching. However, the socks are wearing out and getting new socks is going to be hard. My feet have gotten bigger over the years. At age 13 my feet were size 13 (American) and stayed that size until about ten years ago when they went to 13 1/2. Now they are 15. Try finding socks that size. It isn’t easy and most of the socks I do find are crazy clown socks. I just want simple socks. I get it that my feet are hard to fit, I just don’t like it. It was fun years ago when I could find proper sized shoes and socks; now, it has stopped being fun. It hasn’t been fun for years.

I got a chapter posted yesterday and I got a lot written today. I like where HIGH TREASON is going. I watched a guy making a sign, I presume he is homeless since it was the sort of sign I see often asking for handouts; and, I got an idea for another book. I have to stop getting ideas for books. This idea, which I will never do probably, is that I make a sign saying “I need a million dollars for a project. Can you help with something help me meet my goal?” The project, of course, is a book on collecting a million dollars from strangers. I would have to keep track of the details of my collection efforts in order to make the book valid, which is why I would never do it. I have too many book projects already and this one would take forever and prevent me from working on any other book project. It seems a fun idea though. If you decide to do it, and I wish you luck, I get 10% for the idea.

I haven’t been to my backyard for a while, yes I know the bees are supposed to be drones without stingers, but I stay away anyway. I need to rake and sweep up all the dead bees and throw them away and I need to seal up the hole in the wall that the bees were using to make a hive in. Once that is sealed up, maybe the bees will no longer hang around and I can spend some time out back. I have a very good view of the Catalina Mountains, and I enjoy looking at the mountains. The mountains ringing Tucson are one of the reasons I moved back here.

Tucson is in a desert. The Sonoran Desert to be exact. So, it gets hot in the summer. It is summer, today has been hot, over 45 degrees C. And there is enough moisture in the air to make it miserable, and perhaps to trigger rainstorms. As I was just out, I looked to the east and saw beautiful dark clouds. Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain.

I got some shopping and bill paying done today. I forgot my shopping list so I wandered around in the store trying to remember what I wanted. Plus, there was a whole part of the list that I did not even try to remember. I lost my uniform ribbon bar with all the award ribbons a few months ago and I need to replace it. I wear my ribbons when doing something “veteran” such as carrying the American Flag at church on specific occasions such as Memorial Day, Veterans’ Day, and Independence Day. So, Friday I will have to go back with the list and replace what has been lost.

Tomorrow is posting day, another chapter in GENERATION UPON GENERATION goes up. Friday I have to get a lot more done on HIGH TREASON. Saturday is going to be a binge watching of ARROW Season One. I hope to finish that season off and start on Season Two. I have Season Three as well, and intend to buy Season Four soon. I have the first two seasons of FLASH and intend to buy Season Three soon as well. Once I am caught up with the backlog, I can just watch episodes when I but a new season but only one episode a day, binge watching kind of dulls my mind.

At the Libertarian Party meeting last night I mentioned an idea that I am toying with. I just might run for political office. Specifically, the County Supervisor office for the District I live in. The incumbent is a Democrat, one of three on the five position Board. Since the District overlaps the incorporated area of the City of Tucson, the County does very little for the amount of property taxes the District generates. Since I would make the composition 2-2-1, I would be a swing vote. Especially as, being a Libertarian, I would agree with the Democrats on some issues and with the Republicans on some issues. To make a selfish point, I could bring home more bacon to the District that the incumbent can. I hate to put it that crudely, and I do not like the concept of selling myself on those terms, but it is a good back-up to running on the issues. I will have to think on it.

Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon were taken up with TTRPG. Normally, we meet on specific days and those do not change much but these last two sessions were unusual. Well, the Monday session wasn’t but the Sunday one was. One member of the group had trouble with gaming on Saturday while school was in session and so we gamed on Sunday for most of this year. That ended when the term ended and we went back to Saturdays. However, another member of the group had his wedding anniversary on this last Saturday so we moved to Sunday for that time only. Mondays have been our usual during the week play dates but those vary as group members have family commitments or other commitments that come up. I don’t really like that aspect, I prefer having the game on a regular schedule as much as is possible, but life happens so I live with it.

Tonight is the monthly meeting of the Pima County Libertarian Party and the Chair is recovering from heart surgery so I am going to have to run the meeting. Not that there is a lot to do, except get some projects going. For too long we have been a debating group, not an action group. So, we grow into an action group and help make the world a better place.

I just checked the outside weather. The temperature is extremely hot, 115 degrees F. Humidity is low, so the temperature can be borne for short periods of time. This is just the first of the summer hot spells. It isn’t as hot as it has been in the past, but it is still hot.

I overslept this morning, probably because I had a lot of trouble getting to sleep, and so missed chewing out the Pima County Board of Supervisors. Not that they pay a lot of attention to me, or anyone else for that matter, but it needs to be done anyway.

I did get some writing done today. I am liking where HIGH TREASON is going. I do not plan out my plots in any great detail but I just let the plot flow as it happens. ENTERANCE EXAMINATION was one of the few stories I plotted in any detail before writing it and that was because I was taking the general idea from a Japanese anime video I like, THEY WERE ELEVEN. I changed a lot of the details and THEY WERE ELEVEN is a love story which ENTERANCE EXAMINATION is not, not even close.

Do I have a lot to talk about today? Nope. I spent all day binge watching the TV series ARROW.

Actually, I started last night and continued today. I bought the first season a while back and I am trying to get through it. I actually have the first three seasons but I have never finished watching season one, so I have started yesterday and am continuing until I finish season one. Once I am past that hurdle, the other seasons I have I will watch in a more leisurely manner. Say, maybe, an episode or two an evening.

I always enjoyed Green Arrow, Flash and Batman comics when I was much younger. Green Arrow and Batman because they could always grab the right gadget for the job and Flash because DC Comics could do more with that single trick of speed that anyone should have a right to expect. Neither the Arrow not the Flash series are true to the comics but they are close enough to be enjoyable. Arrow is darker than the comics were when I was growing up but that is not much of a problem for me.
