10th Sunday after Pentecost, 2016

I have been in a funk all this last week. June 30th was the anniversary of my brother Dan’s death and I just lost a friend on the 15th. I am 66 years old and both of these people were much younger than me. People older than me are supposed to die, not younger people. Yes, when I was on active duty in the Air Force I realized that I was being paid to die, and I came close to it once, March 26, 1970. I hope I can face death with some steadiness and not in fear and terror. But when people younger than me die it makes it a bit harder to do so.

Part of the reason for the funk has nothing to do with death but my medicines. I am diabetic and have to inject insulin twice a day. I ran out early last week and there was no refills left on the prescription. I was expecting to see my doctor tomorrow the 25th of July so I would get a new prescription and my first fill then. But I checked my appointments today since I had not gotten the telephone call nor the postcard reminding me of my appointment. My appointment is for the 25th of August. I doubt it is a good idea to go without insulin for that long. So, I have to go down to the VA and brave the construction going on in the pharmacy in order to get some insulin. My blood sugar numbers have been jumpy for weeks now but the last few days the numbers have skyrocketed.

I have finished posting ENTRANCE EXAMINATION but I do wish that some folks would give me some feedback so that I know how well I write and where I need to improve. I start in posting DREADNOUGHT this Thursday. By the time I finish posting it I should have GENERATIONS UPON GENERATIONS ready for posting and I can start work on HIGH TREASON. What the last novel is going to be titled I haven’t decided yet. But once that one is posted I’ll go back to MAGIC IN THE MONASTERY or THE GOD’S TALE or maybe something else. Whatever, I need to keep writing.

I am posting some videos on YouTube and as of now there are five up. Not many people have viewed them and I haven’t gotten feedback on them either. The channel is Christopher Cole, one of perhaps a dozen or more with that name, and includes such titles as Initiating Violence, Why waste your Vote, and others. I keep asking for feedback and never get it, on either of my blogs or my YouTube channel.

If you wish to do so, please stop by gsptucson.org ad get the prayer list from the Sunday bulletins and pray the prayer list.

9th Sunday after Pentecost, 2016

A friend of mine died last Friday. His name was Michael Biles. I doubt you knew him but just in case, he died last Friday the 15th. It was inevitable that he would die young, he was a good 20years younger than me, because of his heart problems which were not helped by his weighing somewhere around 500 pounds. As far as I know, he has not been on a scale for decades even when getting a medical check since the scales normally found in a medical office only go to 350 pounds and Michael weighed that a couple decades ago when he was asking about hanging chairs while attending the Renaissance Fair in Apache Junction. But, he is dead and although he was a pain to be around because of his attitude, he was a friend.

I have started posting videos on YouTube for the Pima County Libertarian Party and as of today there are two: Initiating Violence and Why Waste your Vote. I plan on putting one up tomorrow on the Minimum Wage and maybe another one but I haven’t decided on the topic yet. I want to keep posting videos on various topics for as long as I can. I would appreciate feedback and comments on my videos either to help me make better videos or discuss the issues I spoke about.

The last chapter of ENTRANCE EXAMINATION is going up Thursday. Next week I will start posting chapters of DREADNOUGHT. Again, I would like comments on both novels as a means of improving my writing. The writing blog is christophercolesite.wordpress.com. By the time that is all up I should be done with GENERATIONS UPON GENERATIONS although I am still deciding on the conclusion to that novel. When I write I do not use outlines or plot summaries but I write kind of “stream-of-consciousness” style in that I write the book and am often surprised by the twists and outcomes. The only book I have ever written where I knew the plot, and not just the wanted outcome, was ENTRANCE EXAMINATION because that was inspired by a Japanese anime and I wanted to stay close to the original. Not that I followed the anime closely, it was a love story with aliens and multiple star nations and psychic powers and a civilian university and a few other plot points that I did not put into ENTRANCE EXAMINATION. But I did want to follow the basic idea and I think I did even though the story is different.

Once I finish GENERATIONS UPON GENERATIONS I have the idea for the next novel in the series in mind. Not that I have the plot, just the opening and where I want the story to end. Not that I will guarantee that the ending I am thinking of now is what will be the end of the book. I also have the idea for the last book in the series in mind as well. Again, the opening and what the end is going to be. This time the end will be fixed although the details may change. SPOILER: The Empire is doomed – it is too big and too far out of touch with the political reality throughout the Empire. Politics is always local.

I still haven’t changed my printer so if you wish to pray the prayer list, please go to gsptucson.org and get the prayer list off the Sunday bulletin. Please also pray for Michael Biles. Also, please pray for the millions of people killed, driven from their homes or otherwise persecuted by Muslims throughout the world.

8th Sunday after Pentecost, 2016

Technology is wonderful, until it isn’t. I enjoy working with my computers, playing games, surfing the internet and so forth. My list of favorite sites was pretty long. Yes, I said “was” since the latest update to Windows 10 ruined my favorites list. I have two computers, both with Windows 10. One I recently bought and it came with Windows 10 and the other is older and originally came with Windows 8, which got upgraded to 8.1 and then 10. Both just downloaded and installed an upgrade to Windows 10 and my favorites list is missing a lot of entries and the entries remaining are scrambled. This happened yesterday and I have been working to organize the entries back to alphabetical order but files are mixed with folders and very little is in proper order. Plus, a huge number of entries are missing. I sent a feedback to Microsoft but I doubt that they will reply to me since the webpage specifically stated that I should not expect a reply. The computer I am using here is the old one and has Microsoft Explorer as well as Microsoft Edge and the favorites file in Explorer is not as badly damaged as the one in Edge, which helps a bit.

I am still not sleeping properly. I had one night where I got about eight hours but normally it is anywhere from three to five hours. Last night I went to bed about 9:30 PM, got to sleep about 10 PM and woke up about 2:30 AM. I got back to sleep about 5 AM and slept until 10 AM. My blood sugar measurements have been dancing around like crazy and my weight bounces around as well, just not as bad. With my sleeping problems I wonder if there is something seriously wrong. I had been thinking that maybe I am having thyroid problems as low thyroid seems to fit the symptoms but medical information on the internet, even WebMD, is not diagnostic, just suggestive. I see my doctor later this month and I hope that he, or she – it is a new doctor and I don’t know who it is, can figure out what is wrong.

I have a problem with the news media nowadays. No, I am not going to talk bias but coverage. With the ability to gather information from around the world almost instantly local news and events lose out. Thirty years ago events in Europe would not be covered here in Tucson unless those events were extremely notable such as Brexit. Most of the news coverage would be local news and events as those events would normally have a more direct impact on the lives of Tucsonans. Now, the one newspaper that gave more coverage to local news is no more and the TV stations put national and international news into the local broadcast depriving me of local news. Now, I realize that the news media need advertising money in order to survive but they do over cover the sensational. At least, that is my opinion. Which may be why the traditional news media are losing ground to the youngsters on the internet. Plus, I remember reading something a year or two ago that most young people were getting their news from THE DAILY SHOW and similar comedy shows. I want my local news and I want an informed electorate; unfortunately, that seems too much to ask for.

I am still posting ENTRANCE EXAMINATION on my other blog, christophercolesite.wordpress.com but I am almost finished with that novel. I would like some feedback on my writing style and ability but no one has commented so far. I get the occasional notice that someone likes a chapter and I think there are a few people following the story but no one has commented yet. People have stopped commenting on this blog as well  For all I am getting out of this effort, I might as well just shut down and destroy all the posts. I am not planning on doing that, at least not yet.

I still haven’t installed my new printer so if you wish to do so, please visit gsptucson.org and find the latest prayer list, part of the weekly bulletin.

7th Sunday after Pentecost, 2016

I am actually posting early on the morning of Monday instead of the evening of Sunday as I was busy with various things such as grocery shopping last evening and I just didn’t get to writing a post last night.

I am still having trouble sleeping. As an example, I went to bed around 9:30 last night and woke about 1:30 this morning and haven’t been able to go back to sleep yet and if today follows previous nights, I won’t get back to sleep and the four hours is all I will get. I am getting tired of being tired all day. I don’t want to take naps, although I do, as naps might disrupt my ability to sleep the night through. I see my doctor later this month and this is another thing to bring up. I wish I didn’t have these health problems. And yes, I understand that there are a lot of people whose health problems are considerably worse than mine. I don’t want their problems and I wish mine would go away.

As part of the Sunday service I carried the American Flag at church. I bought a new pair of shoes because the shoes I normally wear on Sunday do not allow me to turn easily as they have textured soles. My new shoes are patent leather and look nice plus they are leather soled so I can turn in them better. However, they are new and patent leather, which means that they are stiff. So, my feet were hurting by the end of the service and when I got home and took them off I noticed that the sock on my left foot had a pinkish heel where the heel had been rubbed raw by the heel of the shoe. I think I will donate these shoes and buy a pair in a wider width. If I work the shoes I think I will crack the patent leather. I never wore patent leather shoes before, when I was on active duty I wore boots all the time as I was always in fatigues.

Once again I refer you to gsptucson.org if you wish to pray the prayer list I normally post here as I have yet to install the new printer. The prayer list in part of the Sunday bulletin. I also ask that you pray for the millions of people who have been killed, driven from their homelands or otherwise persecuted by Muslims throughout the world.
