3rd Sunday in Lent, 2016

I think that I might be getting over whatever the hell has been knocking me down. I’ve felt good for three days in a row now after going through five rolls of toilet paper the previous five days.

My brother Wally had a cookout yesterday and both of his sons were present, along with all their kids. Plus, there were family friends there with their kids. I was surrounded by kids six and younger. It was nice, I like being around kids but I have to be careful so that I don’t get accused of child abuse or something similar. I am elderly, never been married, and live alone. Witch hunt anyone? I can remember the MacMartin case and the subsequent child abuse witch hunts that followed. Just the accusation, even when the evidence showed that the accused incident could not have happened, was enough to destroy someone life with no hope of ever recovering. So, I enjoy being around kids but only in a public place and with other adults around.

I finally broke down and started putting my writing on line. I started another blog: christophercolesite.wordpress.com and put the first chapter of Entrance Examination up for viewing. I hope people read it, and especially give me feedback. The story behind this story is that decades ago I wrote a book entitled Generations upon Generations (and I am presently working on a new version now) but when the Soviet Union fell part of the background material integral to the plot went away. I threw the book away and started trying to think of a way to rewrite it without needing the Soviet Union. I wrote a lot of background material for myself in order to keep the stories consistent and wondered how to write anything in that fictional universe. I saw an anime entitled They were Eleven and realized that with some adaption I could use that as the starting point for the main character. I didn’t do a close copy, or even a real copy, of that story. I took the idea that eleven people are taking a test when they expect only ten. After that, nothing is the same. They were Eleven is a love story, has aliens, psionic powers, multiple star nations, and the people are testing to enter a prestigious civilian academy. Plus, one of the eleven is not as that person seems. Entrance Examination is not a love story (except that the main character has a love interest back home), there are no aliens, no psionic powers, there is only the Empire, and the academy that they are testing to enter is the Imperial Naval Academy. Oh yeah, in They were Eleven the testing is voluntary and in mandatory in Entrance Examination. Anyway, I hope it gets read. The template I chose has only one page and an About Page. I am going to have to change that to a template where I can put multiple stories up.

2nd Sunday in Lent, 2016

Another day sick. I am getting very tired of this, all this year so far I have been feeling ill for probably 90% of the days. I hope I feel well enough tomorrow to get done what needs to be done.

Last week was a downer, I got almost nothing done, in part due to not feeling well. But another part is I just don’t have any energy, this is separate from not feeling well. I hate to talk about my illnesses and how bad I feel but right now, that is just about all I have. Last Friday I was going to print out Entrance Examination and post the first chapter here as a separate item form my political and personal posts but as should be obvious, I didn’t. I am 66 years old and some days, most days this year, I feel 166 or worse. I just do not feel well.

So this is going to be a short post.

If you wish to do so, please pray for: Michael the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, Kirk the Bishop for Arizona, Steve and the other clergy of Grace-St. Paul’s Episcopal Church; for those in the military especially those in combat zones, especially Ronald Berryhill, Owen Chandler, Christopher Gallo, Michael Hannan, Andrew Harris, Donna Heath, Frederick Jenning, Jordan S. 1st Sunday in Lent, 2016

The weather here in Tucson has warmed away from its bitter cold – bitter cold for here anyway. I have been in Tucson since 1988, with some previous time from 1971 to 1976, and I doubt I could survive a winter Back East anymore. Were I to move back, say to Indianapolis where I was born and where I occasionally fantasize about moving to, I would have to be house-bound from probably October to April. If I did go out, I’d have to be so bundled up that I couldn’t move. I approve of the warm weather here.

Most of last week was a dud for me. I never felt really well but never felt sick. So I got very little writing done, I just sat here and watched YouTube videos. I like watching cosplay videos, the work a lot of those people did on their costumes is incredible. I couldn’t identify most of the characters being represented but I did enjoy the effort required to make the costumes and get the character’s moves down pat.

I am finishing off Dreadnought and I am still working, albeit not very hard, on Generations upon Generations and I do a lot of thinking about what the next book is going to be – title and plot not yet thought of. All of last month, except maybe a half dozen days, I did not feel well and lay in bed most of the day and this month I am having another spurt of the same – although spurt may be too active a verb to describe this.

If you wish to do so, please pray for: Michael the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, Kirk the Bishop for Arizona, Steve and the other clergy of Grace-St. Paul’s Episcopal Church; for those in the military, especially those in combat zones especially Ronald Berryhill, Owen Chandler, Christopher Gallo, Michael Hannan, Andrew Harris, Donna Heath, Frederick Jenning, Jordan S. I also ask that you pray for the millions of people who have been killed, driven from their homelands or otherwise persecuted by Muslims thoughout the world.

5th Sunday after Epiphany, Transfiguration Sunday, 2016

As I write this I am recording the Super Bowl, I was watching the game while recording it which is nice since I can pause whenever I need to and still catch all the action and the commercials, many of which are interesting. Most shows I record I skip the commercials if I have seen them before and didn’t like them, I do watch most that I haven’s seen before and some I watch more than once. But the Super Bowl commercials are special, advertisers take special care to entertain and present their product in a good light. Many are interesting in and of themselves even if the commercial is for a product I would not be interested in.

The weather here in Tucson is still cold, not as bad as a few days ago, but still bad. Cold weather for a day or two is acceptable, kind of, but this has been going on for weeks. If I wanted cold weather, I would have stayed in Plattsburgh or moved back to Indianapolis where I was born. I can go up to Mount Lemmon and see snow and feel the cold, and when I am done I can return to Tucson and be warm. At least, normally I would be warm. Mount Lemmon is in the Catalina Mountains just north of Tucson and has the southernmost natural ski resort in America.

I think I might have thyroid problems, the more I study the matter the more I am convinced but I have to remember to talk to my doctor about it as just reading about it on the Internet, even on respectable and knowledgeable sites such as WebMD is not a diagnosis. And just because I have convinced myself does not allow me to prescribe medications for myself. But the doctor I had at the VA has quit and I do not even know what clinic I will be transferred to or if I will stay at the one I have been at for a few years now. I just have to call and find out and get my appointment.

If you wish to do so, please pray for: Michael the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, Kirk the Bishop for Arizona, Steve and the other clergy of Grace-St. Paul’s Episcopal Church; for those in the military, especially those in combat zones, especially Ronald Berryhill, Owen Chandler, Christopher Gallo, Michael Hannan, Andrew Harris, Donna Heath, Frederick Jenning, Jordan S. Bussell; for animal companions who have died especially Audrey. I also ask that you pray for the millions of people killed, driven from their homes or otherwise persecuted by Muslims throughout the world.

4th Sunday after Epiphany, 2016

I am hoping that whatever has been laying me low has ended and I can get back to normal. However, if I have identified the symptoms correctly, it hasn’t ended. It was suggested to me, and I did some research to check it out, that my thyroid is not working right – hypothyroidism. That may be and it does make sense but I am wary of trusting too much what I learn on the internet about health issues. Even WebMD can lead someone down a wrong path. So I am going to have to remember to talk about it at my next doctor’s visit. However, the doctor I had been going to at the VA has left the VA and so my last visit was with another doctor in another clinic; and I do not know, no one knew at the time, if I will continue to see that doctor or will get assigned to someone else. I don’t even have an idea when my next appointment will be. If need be, I will have to make an appointment on my own and find out what is wrong with me. Spending almost all of January in bed because I don’t feel well is way too much.

Several months ago one of the attendees at the monthly Pima County Libertarian Party meeting suggested that I start doing YouTube videos, mentioning that he could do the editing and upload the videos as he had considerable experience with videos. He hasn’t been back so I am going to have to do this on my own. I am presently looking for an editing program that I can easily learn to use. Maybe I will become a media star.

Pima County wasted another $15 million a couple of weeks ago giving the money to a local company that intends to offer balloon rides to the edge of space to the wealthy. There is no indication that there is a demand for this activity so I wonder if this is just a way to funnel a lot of money to a politically well-connected group. One of the principals isĀ  retired US Navy Captain Mark Kelly the husband of former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. From what little information I have, this seems to be a criminal violation of the Gift Clause in the Arizona State Constitution.

In about a week and a half is the start of Lent for denominations that use a church calendar. There is a web site called Lent Madness that has a March Madness-style elimination tournament among various saints. It is good fun reading about those listed for each year and it is fun reading the comments people put on the site explaining their vote. You might want to check it out.
